Yule greetings!

I hope you all had a blessed Yule. Right here is wonderful! It is not rainy or too cold, so it feels amazing to fill your lungs with fresh air in the morning. But the nights...Oh, the nights! Little twinkling lights and beautiful decorations are making the city look so glamorous. This is a fun time! But it is the first time i notice that because in the past around Christmas i was usually focused on myself, spiralling inwards towards a truth never captured. Of course i am not completely outgoing, the season still affects me, Midwinter holds my heart hostage, but i am trying hard to let myself reconnect with friends and family.
Since money is kind of tight, i am not buying expensive gifts. I am making gift baskets for everyone. I will fill them with apples and pies and small gifts and decorations of evergreens. I hope people will enjoy them, i will sure enjoy making them. In every basket i am adding a special magical gift either for love or prosperity. I look forward in giving them! I take such great pleasure in making gifts.
But i do not support the obligatory nature of christmas gifts. I prefer giving them when i feel like it, and i totally disagree with the consumerism that drives people into overcharging their credit cards and making their depths ever bigger! Hence, gift baskets filled with things that show love and caring!
How do you feel about Christmas gifts?

Those baskets sound like wonderful gifts. I do that myself for the people I work with...only I get the small fancy gift bags and fill them with little trinkets from the 99 cent store...candle, tree decoration, some candy. I never expect anything in return. I just enjoy doing it.

I feel the same way. When I see something throughout the year that calls to me for someone, I buy it. I prefer to make my gifts as well as to receive handmade. I give to who I feel, not who I feel obligated to.

Yule greetings to you as well. My hubsband, Sweet Man, and I gave up giving each other presents many years before we became pagan even. Children have always been our focus. We do Solstice gifts of promise. Handmade and especially for the person. One of my grands is a reader and so the fairies brought her a book, bookmark and a book bag. Her brother is a builder of all things and so we gathered sticks, pinecones, acorns and glue and put them in a old wooden box. I just marvel and not in a good way how folks just go nutsy thinking that the buying is the mark of the season. And I mean pagan or christian or whatever. It's that one upmanship thing that is our downfall I guess.
Be of good heart, the sun is coming and we are the beneficiaries at all times. Brightest Yule blessings, Linda in New Mexico

I'm like you - I will not go into debt at Christmas. I used to, and I was miserable. So - I buy what I can afford, and make what I can, and give IOU's if need be - but I try my hardest not to buy into the consumerism.

I'd rather not get a gift than think that someone felt they had to get me something, or went into debt because of it.

Happy yule! This year I talked my husband's local family (a big family) to not give gifts, but we could do cookies. We had the most wonderful potluck supper and laughed and hugged and were filled with holiday spirit, then we exchanged gift baskets and cookie platters and they were my favorite gifts of all! I have to admit, it's rare someone gives a gift I actually need. I end up with lots of little things I now need to house in my tight spaces, but these adorable platters and cookies and fudges and such--beautiful! People feel much more loved to get such thoughtful things. Enjoy the beauty of the season. Winter is a time to cuddle inside with loved ones and grow close to people you love. Summer is about running around and being outdoors and holidays and no one gets close. I like winter just for that.

I wholeheartedly agree.
Seems today people have forgotten the true spirit of this season.
We can blame it on the stores,
the advertisers, manufacturers
and on down the line but in the
end we are the ones to blame!!
I know your baskets are Welcome
surprises...
May the months ahead be Blessed!
